With thousands of books lined up in the New Age and occult shelves, finding a worthwhile introduction to astrology should be easy. But in fact, today’s astrological publications suffer terribly from poor quality. Save money on your research. When you can’t or don’t want to borrow from a library, look for these titles:
- Only Way to Learn Astrology Series
The ambition of this 6-volume series is to give you the best possible start in all the major aspects of modern astrology including birth charts, birth chart compatibility, predictions, horary and elections. You’ll find more lessons packed in this group of books than you’d expect for their size. If you want to learn astrology beyond just interpreting your own chart, and you want to learn fast, check them out. The authors don’t beat around the bush. They promise to deliver the goods– and they do. - The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need
The title is a lie–but don’t let that put you off. This book is a good introduction to natal astrology if your expectations aren’t too high. It is written in a friendly, very readable style. You won’t be intimidated. The basics of sun signs, moon signs, relationships and a history of astrology are covered. Tables for finding your signs are included. If you’re the type who just wants to read about your own chart, and not so much to become an astrologer one day, this will be a good book to have. Just don’t think that this is all there is to astrology. - A to Z Horoscope Maker and Delineator
Classic among astrology books for beginners. You will know how to do astrological charts and read them on your own with the use of this book. Instead of giving tables to guess your planets’ positions, it shows you how to do all the math yourself. But there is more to this than boring mathematics. It tells you how to interpret the charts you make too just as an astrologer does. Be warned though: it’s an old-fashioned book–not for the New Age type who shuns negativity. Don’t buy this book if “dark” and “gloomy” readings scare you.
Tips
Astrology books are easy to find in libraries. Look for the above-mentioned titles in your community library first. As you continue your studies, you may realize that the more advanced, quality literature is hard to find in most libraries. You’ll have to hunt them down in your local bookstore or in places like Amazon and eBay where you will often find them for sale used at cheap prices. Books are necessary for a budding astrologer. But don’t be bookish. Experience with charts is even more important.
